8 Of Wands

My card is complete! I am so proud and excited to be a part of this awesome project! 78 artists from around the world have joined together to each create a single card of the tarot deck.

The eight of wands represents speedy movement ahead. All the plans have been made and the foundations have been laid. All you need to do is let go and let things fall into place because there is no time to waste. This card is about primal energies. It is a fire element that demands the necessity for change and brings forth swiftly unfolding events. To boil it down to one word – manifestation.

I decided that I was going to run with the primal energies of creation. Nebulas are the birth place of stars, you cannot get much more primal than that, and the Horsehead Nebula has always been one of my favorite celestial sights. The figure is a woman, an artist, an element of creation unto herself with her wands of power in the guise of paint brushes and palette knives. In the distance is the tree of all life with the correlating zodiac signs associated with the number 8 and the 8 of wands card.  Mars, Jupiter and Saturn hover in the background weighing in with their influence.


The reverse of the card represents stagnation and wasted energy and opportunities. If you flip the card around you end up being sucked into the black hole and get trapped in stagnation. The tree of life becomes a bleak and dead skeleton.
